FAQ

What is the content of the Škoda Trainee program?

The Škoda Trainee program is individually tailored to each trainee according to their target focus. The core of the entire program is made up of so-called rotations which are arranged to correspond as closely as possible with the trainee's future focus (e.g. a trainee in the area of Technical Development will not only gain experience in technical development but can also join the engine production, quality and other departments as agreed with the mentor). Through the rotations, the trainee gets to know Škoda Auto, its structure and corporate culture. Furthermore, they will have the opportunity to participate in the implementation of interesting projects and undergo a number of training courses. They will also spend a few months in another brand of the VW Group.

Where does the Škoda Trainee program take place?

The placement can be at any Škoda Auto plant in the Czech Republic based on the current requirements of the company departments. However, most trainees are based in Mladá Boleslav, where the company's headquarters are located.

How many trainees will you be recruiting this year?

The number of trainees is limited to 30 participants per year.

As a trainee, will I be working part-time or full-time?

The Škoda Trainee program is a standard full-time job. It is a normal employment relationship, where you can also take advantage of all employee benefits.

What is the difference between Trainee program and direct employment?

Both types of entry into the company are equivalent. Every applicant must decide, what type suits them the best. Škoda Trainee program provides the opportunity to get to know different departments and make contacts within the company.

What is the difference between Trainee program and an internship?

The Trainee program is a full-time position for university graduates with work experience. An internship is suitable for gaining work experience while studying.

Is it possible to reapply?

Unfortunately, in the case of the Škoda Trainee program, a candidate can only be selected once.

How long after graduation can I apply for the Škoda Trainee program?

You can become a trainee no later than 2 years after completing your bachelor's or master's degree. You must adjust the date of your application to this.

Can I apply if I am a distance learner?

Yes, if you have completed a full-time bachelor's degree and are continuing on to a master's degree by distance learning.

How does the selection process work after I submit my CV?

After submitting your application, you will receive an online language test. After filling it in, a recruiter will contact you to arrange an interview. You will receive feedback from the interview within 3 weeks at the latest. If you pass the interview successfully, you will go to the assessment centre, where you will get to know the result at the end of the day.

What is the deadline for applications into the program?

You can apply from October to January if you want to start in March, and from April to July if you want to start in September. The closing date for applications depends on the capacity of the selection procedure.

If I am interested in joining the Škoda Trainee program in September, when is the right time to apply?

We recommend applying approximately 4 months before the planned start date, especially due to the demanding nature and capacity of the selection process.

What happens if I am successful in all rounds of the selection process but do not manage to graduate on time?

You do not have to worry about losing your place in the Trainee program. We always deal with these situations on an individual basis.

How is the first department for the rotation selected?

The first department is selected to be closest to your profile and focus. Together, we gather your priorities and wishes, the conclusions of the recruiter, and then the recommendations that come from the observers at the Assessment Centre.

What departments are available for the rotation?

During the Trainee program, you can try out departments across the entire company. However, it always comes down to the needs and capacities of each department.

How are rotations planned and is it possible to get into all areas of the company?

Although the program is tailored as much as possible to your individual needs, it is not possible to be assigned to all areas. Each trainee is assigned a mentor who guides and develops them. Together, they then plan rotations based on the needs and requirements of the trainee and the Škoda Auto departments.

What will the start of the Trainee program be like?

It all starts with a Welcome Party, where you will meet both current trainees and former trainees and start building your network. At the beginning of the first week, we will give you a tour of the company and introduce you to the projects we are working on. We will finish it off with a two-day team building session where you will get to know your colleagues. The onboarding process then continues in the second week with a production experience.

Is it an advantage to live in Mladá Boleslav?

Living in or around Mlada Boleslav is not a necessity, it depends on the location of your rotation and your willingness to commute. However, we recommend that you take advantage of the accommodation offered near Mlada Boleslav, at least in the first month after starting, as your presence will be required almost every day due to onboarding activities. It is also a good opportunity to strengthen relationships with other trainees.

Will I be entitled to a transport allowance if I commute?

As part of the Trainee program, you will have the opportunity to rent a car on operating lease at a discounted price for employees. And if you do not want to commute, you can use accommodation at a nominal cost.

What kind of employment contract will I get?

When commencing the Trainee program, a fixed-term (one year) employment contract is concluded. After successful completion of the program, there are many options for the next steps at Škoda Auto.

What is the remuneration for trainees?

The remuneration of trainees is based on a tariff system consisting of a basic and an incentive component. Excellent results are reflected in the personal remuneration which the trainee is eligible for after 3 months at the company. When these amounts are added together, the trainee receives up to 50,000 CZK per month.

What is the typical career path of trainees after completing the Škoda Trainee program?

The Škoda Trainee program is suitable for both professionals and potential managers at various levels. However, it is not a management program. Completing it does not guarantee fast career progression, but it does give you the opportunity to develop professionally and personally and build a network of contacts.

What languages am I going to need at the company?

English is the main communication language of the company. However, we welcome both knowledge of, and willingness to learn, German.

What is expected of me as a trainee?

As a trainee, you will spend most of your time on your rotations, where you can get expert education and gain valuable experience. At the same time, you will be part of a community of trainees that engages in the company's CSR activities, organises joint events, helps with onboarding of new trainees, participates in career fairs and shares experiences across Škoda Auto's talent groups.

Where and when is it possible to go on a foreign internship within the Trainee program? And what will I be doing there?

If the covid situation permits, trainees do foreign rotations towards the end of their Trainee program. You will be sent on to the foreign internship by your target department. Therefore, you will already be working on a project related to your target position. The most common foreign internships are currently done in Europe, especially in Germany and Spain. The internship may take place in any company of the VW Group, naturally depending on needs and requirements of the given department.
