Humans of SKODA: Diana Gregorová, Intern in Technical department

Apart from experienced professionals there are often young people at the start of their career working for ŠKODA AUTO.  We can find here fresh graduates as well as hundreds of students who use the free time in their time schedules to gain valuable experience in the company. One of them is Diana Gregorová, the future mechanical engineer.

Diana, you study mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Liberec, which is not a very girly field of study.  What made you choose a technical programme?

Not only am I interested in technology, but studying a technical programme was attractive for me because it’s a creative process and offers the opportunity for a speedy career growth. Moreover, study at the faculty of mechanical engineering is among the more demanding ones, and so there are not many mechanical engineers, which automatically increases the job market demand.

What surprised you the most after starting your internship here?

The biggest surprise was seeing the line in full operation. It’s something completely different from what people imagine. Thanks to my position as an intern I get to see other workplaces as well, which gives me the opportunity to see how the whole company is run.

Where did you get the idea to apply for internship at ŠKODA AUTO? How long have you been working here? What are your duties?

The company has a good reputation both in the Czech Republic and abroad. I’ve been doing internship at the Internal repairs department for one year already. My duties include doing designs, more specifically preparing technical documentation in the Creo Parametric software.

What did you improve at during your ŠKODA AUTO internship? What are your colleagues like?

I found out that not everything one learns at school works the same in real life. I learnt to look at things from a more practical point of view and work in a team. I can’t complain about my colleagues. They helped me a lot right from the start and they’re fun to be around.

What do you think helped you get enrolled in the scholarship programme for best interns? What are the benefits of the programme?

First of all, it was my manager who nominated me for the programme. Secondly, it was a challenge. Why not? The main benefit is a guaranteed job at ŠKODA AUTO following your university study and a considerable salary.

What motivates you at work?

I’m motivated by the possibility of career growth, which is connected to a well-done job.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

In my free time I mostly enjoy doing sports and spend time with my dog. Sport has taught me that even if things aren’t going great at the given moment, one must not stop fighting. It’s similar with work.  Ultimately, you always find the solution you’re looking for, it’s just about persistence and effort to work on reaching your goal.

Do you know what you would like to do after you finish your studies?

I’m interested in working on new cars and components. My dream is the technical development.

What was your dream job when you were little?

A vet. As a little girl I used to have a lot of pets.

Which animal comes to your mind when someone says ŠKODA AUTO?

The German shepherd. There are several reasons for this. Just like ŠA strives to be ‘Simply Clever’, the German shepherd is also a smart animal. In the Czech Republic it’s a very popular breed, it’s a reliable, beautiful dog that takes care of our safety.
