At last, I am a part of the Trainee Programme. I can finally relax and talk about what had happened and how I felt during the process. I signed up because I wasn’t sure what kind of work I could possibly enjoy. I wanted to experiment and travel, not just start to work somewhere and fall into a routine.
Trainee Programme sounded interesting, but I had my doubts too. The information was limited, and I was worried to ask too much during the admission procedure. I can see it more clearly now. The doubts were pointless. So, come along and learn what I learned!
After three months, I’ve just finished my rotation at first department. Without being hasty, I can already imagine staying there after the programme ends. Every single day I am getting an increasingly more accurate idea of my future job. It wasn´t always like that, though. When I graduated from the university, I was certain only of one thing: I must enjoy my work. Choosing it can be tricky though, so what better way to choose than to try several jobs a year?
No problem with this Trainee Programme! I signed up on ŠKODA Career website, passed the assessment centre and started to wonder what I would really do at ŠKODA AUTO. All I knew was that I can do several rotations, but I didn´t even know what departments there were; let alone what they were working on.
However, the situation began to be clear soon. Trainee Programme Coordinator contacted me, and we met to choose my first department.
Based on my CV, profile from the Assessment Centre, preferences and appropriate mentors available, we agreed on three departments, which suited me best. Then I had an appointment with each of them, so we could get to know each other and clarify our expectations.
The manager of the first department usually becomes your mentor and helps you during the year.
The atmosphere of the interviews was relaxed, and it really helped me to make my final decision. I found out more about these departments and my future possible daily agenda and tasks. Everything sounded just great! Two of the departments really impressed me and I couldn´t even decide which one to choose. Again, no problem with the Trainee Programme! I will end up working in both and then plan other rotations when I find out more of what I enjoy.
Right now, I work at “Complete Car Tests” department, where I have an opportunity to look into the various phases of the technical development starting with virtual reality and ending with serial production, be in touch with prototypes and oncoming vehicles and participate in their testing. Doing so, I took part in comparative drives in Germany, where I accompanied one of the hybrid models and presented it to ŠKODA AUTO board members. Working in this department also includes accompanying the cars on testing in various climate conditions, which means a lot of travelling. Sounds like a dream job, doesn´t it?
After three months in ŠKODA AUTO, I still learn new things every day and my plans will most likely change several times. Never mind! That´s the Trainee Programme and I can´t wait to see what comes next.
