You may be wondering what ŠKODA Trainees living in Mlada Boleslav do after a challenging day at work. I don´t speak just for myself, but doing sports is an ideal way to free your mind with the nice side effect of keeping your body in shape. Fortunately, Mladá Boleslav offers a wide variety of sporting possibilities. Let’s take a look at them together in this article.
Work on Your Body
Let me start with the classical approach of individual work out – the gym, the activity I enjoy. In Mladá Boleslav, there are plenty of gyms that should cover the majority of your preferences in style, music taste, requirements to equipment and service.
Some Trainees also like to visit the recently opened indoor swimming pool, where you will find excellent conditions to go for a few lanes.
Many of us are fans of outdoor sports – the parks Radouč and Štěpánka offer plenty of running space as well as facilities for an outdoor workout session.
Play in a Team
As much as I love to work out, I do enjoy team sports as well. The interactions with team members or opponents and the group dynamics motivate me to push the limits further. By the way, team sport is also an excellent opportunity for networking, especially for us Trainees who are new to the area. In this context, I have recently joined the ŠKODA Dragon Boat Team with a few Trainees. The dragon boat is a large specifically designed canoe with a capacity of roughly 20 paddlers. The team consists of ŠKODA employees working in the different departments at various performance levels, all sitting in the same boat. The outstanding combination of stamina, strength, technique and teamwork gives this sport unique dynamics and intensity. Also, the team participates in several competitions during the season that highlights in Wolfsburg where teams from the whole VW GROUP compete against one another.
Another example is the upcoming football tournament for which each ŠKODA department builds a team to win the cup. We, Trainees, are flying the flag for Human Resources.
Book a Pitch
For those who want to have fun with their friends, Mladá Boleslav offers countless possibilities for doing some other team sports. Once a week, together with our group of current and former Trainees we hire out the ŠKODA Academy facilities and have a game of football.
Another solution is to spend some time in one of the sports centres in Mladá Boleslav. There, for a reasonable price, you will gain access to a wide range of different pitches for playing sports like badminton, squash, tennis or bowling etc. There are many places around the city waiting to be discovered and enjoyed. We have recently found excellent beach volleyball pitches located very close to our accommodations, and thus, we are getting ready for summer vacation.
For the Fans
If you are a sports enthusiast, MB can offer you the pleasure you are looking for. Let me start with the obvious: Football. The FK Mladá Boleslav is an above-average club of the Czech first national football league. Having qualified for the European League, we can expect interesting matches with foreign teams. We are looking forward to it. What else could be a bigger deal in the Czech Republic than football? Ice Hockey! Together with the pumped-up crowd, you can experience intense matches of the BK Mladá Boleslav in the ŠKO Energo Aréna where the Czech first national hockey league is played. Being home of ŠKODA AUTO, MB has a lot to offer for motorsport fans, for example, the Rally Bohemia takes place here once a year. The entire event was such a great experience for me and my Trainee colleagues. During the weekend, the city and its surroundings become a rally track with the old town becoming the finish line! I promise you that hunting the rally drivers from stage to stage during the whole weekend and seeing them sliding their cars across the countryside is immensely entertaining.
Mladá Boleslav is a great place for doing sports. We have much more to discover and we hope you could help us!
