New Trainee Tradition: Trainee Reunion

Another great event from the networking team, which took place on 27th August 2019, was the Trainee Reunion! On 27th August 2019, Trainees from past 26 years of the programme got together and enjoyed one of the last days of summer!

Wait, what is the Networking team?

We are a group of motivated Trainees, working to create and strengthen the connection between former Trainees, managers and current Trainees in the company, and within the group scale. Besides the Networking team, there are the teams of HR Marketing, CSR or Onboarding.

There are many connections to be made within SKODA AUTO employees, especially in the Trainee community. We are constantly looking for new ideas to involve people in fun activities to break the already-thin ice. One of those ideas, Trainee Reunion, realised to strengthen the network within the Trainee community. To do so, we have decided to create a competition with mixed teams consisting of a nice composition of older and younger Trainees. They were encouraged to get to know their teammates while working towards a common goal.

Warm summer days inspired us to organise the event like a sports competition combined with dinner and socialising in the open air. Of course, the best team wins a prize! During the planning, we faced many challenges that we didn´t anticipate in the beginning. After our initial discussion, it was time to get into action. To get maximum attendance at this event, we asked many ex-trainees to discuss our ideas. The main challenge was to find an event location, which would fit our criteria for a variety of sporting activities. Hence, there were compromises in event location and activities. Meanwhile, we prepared the invitations to inform people about the event and its details. In the end, the location was set, and activities were planned so that we could start sending the invitations.

The event started with registration of the participants and then forming of teams. Trainee Programme coordinator Alžběta Budinská opened the event officially with her introductory speech. Our volunteer friends and we explained the games and then, the teams started their first tests. Tug of war, Tennis: Hit & Run, Beach Volleyball and Mini football activities challenged the teams to gather points. These tasks were very exciting, full of energy and dedication. At the end of the competitions, calculation of overall scores revealed the winning team, who then received the grand prize! Undoubtedly, they were not the only ones who enjoyed the event. Happy faces were seen around, as a sign of a joyful evening with delicious food and drinks. The event officially ended with a closure speech again from our Trainee Programme coordinator and her thanks to the Networking team for the effort they put into the organization, followed by our gratitude to the HR department for supporting the event and making it possible.

Later in the warm summer evening, some remnants of competition seekers continued playing other games such as table football, while being accompanied by some great tunes from the DJ.

From the beginning, we aimed to create a new Trainee tradition where people could meet in a more informal environment. After the event, we sent a survey to all attendees to get their feedback so we could improve our event planning for the next time. Those feedbacks motivated us greatly. Thank you all for sharing your opinions! Here are some of those:

“Thank you for this great event, looking forward to the next year.”

“Let’s make it a tradition!”

“It was great to meeting you all; this event reminded me of such a great community we are.”

Trainee Reunion was highly prized, and we received many requests to make this a Trainee tradition. If you would like to join or plan events like this and more, join the ŠKODA Trainees and become a member of our community!

Hope to meet you all!
